So you need HVAC repair or a replacement, and you know how important it is to choose the right company …
An HVAC company with skilled technicians can help ensure that your system lasts longer, but overall, the sign of a good company/technician is that you won’t notice anything! As opposed to a subpar technician, who improperly installs or fails to repair your unit. That’s something you will definitely feel the effects of, whether it’s your pocketbook or an uncomfortable home!
Here are five tips to make sure you pick the right company with the best technicians!
Company Reviews
If you haven’t already, you’ll want to research local HVAC companies to find the right tech. If you Google “HVAC company near me,” you’ll probably find several websites and ads, but it’s more important to look at Google, Yelp, Facebook, and Better Business Bureau (BBB) reviews.
Here at H.A. Sun, we have a 4.5 star Google ranking with 94 reviews!
Call and See How You Feel
When you have a list of local HVAC companies you’re interested in, call them and see how the office answers. This is a good reflection of how the company will treat you overall. To quote ENERGY STAR’s Twitter account, don’t be afraid to ask about a contractor’s past performance: “… ask about the contractor’s installation or service performance, and if the job was completed on time and within budget.”
Don’t Quote Me on That!
Have you ever called an HVAC company and asked how much a new air conditioner would cost you? If you call H.A. Sun with that question, we tell you that we have to come out to your home to give you a quote.
If an HVAC company wants to give you a quote on the phone, that should be a red flag because they can’t make an accurate estimate without physically seeing your home and your system!
Credentials
Speaking of full inspection, in order to thoroughly vet an HVAC contractor, you should know whether they are certified by the North American Technician Excellence (NATE) organization.
This is a non-profit certification organization that is the most comprehensive certification for HVAC techs. This is because it includes both a written exam and a hands-on exam. If a technician is NATE-certified, you know they have been rigorously tested and passed with flying colors!
Communication
Last but not least, even after you get an HVAC tech to your home, it’s not too late to decide whether they are the right contractor for you or not.
- Did they show up on time to your home?
- Can you see that they are doing a multiple-point inspection, instead of just giving your home and system a once-over?
- Do they walk you through written documentation of everything that has been done?
- Are they friendly, professional, communicative, and happy to answer all your questions?
If the answer to all these questions is, “yes!,” then, congratulations, it looks like you’ve picked an H.A. Sun technician!
In all seriousness, we do want customers to arm themselves with as much knowledge and research as possible before they decide on a company and technician to hire. But we have the utmost faith in our technicians and their service, their meticulous attention to detail, patience, and ability!
